Petr Smělík is an editor, producer, and director of award-winning TV shows, films and documentaries. First film he produced and edited, the animated short The Tokio Brothers, was featured at the Japan Media Arts Festival and was awarded a prize at the Tokyo International Anime Fair.
He edited the documentary Phantom of Liberty II, which was awarded a Special Prize by the Finále Plzeň festival as an “audacious experiment with time on the fringes of the documentary genre.”
He edited the series Enclosed World about life in prison, which was awarded the prestigious prize Czech Joy at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival.
His debut as a feature director, A Year in a Village, received the Documentary Film Award at Acampadoc Panamá. He also directed a documentary series on the history of Czech cinema which is now taught in film schools.
Smělik is the editor and co-director of the feature-length film Identita, about the history of Czech graphic design.
He's currently finishing his first feature film, One Must Live.
